matrescence

2023- ongoing

This body of work is a reflection on matrescence- the becoming of a mother- and the emotional

wrestling of time that comes with this role. Layers of color form moments I wish could be frozen,

but it is only in letting them go that the new can be welcomed.

Figures are frozen mid action, as if grasping for a moment that no longer exists. Still lifes are

expressions of play my children have abandoned, for me to find. These “precious messes”

represent parallels in both becoming a mother and growing into childhood.
