My paintings excavate tree and nature forms into psychological portraits of our most honest human states of vulnerability, resilience, and interconnectivity.
My process is rooted in paying attention to the natural world that persists in the midst of, and often thrives in spite of, contemporary life. Through the act of painting my interpretations of these noticings, I uncover the inner wildness and clarity such observations have afforded me.
I choose color with intuition, seeking balance between vibrancy and restraint. My markmaking is informed by my role as a mother: While rooted in foundations of observational painting, I aim to allow the same playfulness that my children embody in the way they move through the world.
My work tends to take up space. I use scale as a nod to the larger dialogue of humankind's complicated relationship to nature as well as a response to societal pressure to stay small.
