Handle with Care

Wool, wood framing, wire, and glass (found object)

60” x 25” x 21”

2022-2025

This piece, intended as an installation, explores the basic essence of relationship: being trusted with, and trusting in return, holding and caring for the fragile parts of someone else. It’s not to be taken lightly. To be in relationship with another human is the greatest privilege (and responsibility) in the world.

Collectively, the pieces are different from one another, representing the vast array of individuality in a community of people, all together caring for one another.

The glass object used are reclaimed Japanese fishing bobs (found objects) and the wool containers intentionally resemble fishing nets, alluding to the artist’s background in seafaring.

Soft wool nods to the safety and comfort found in relationship.

The physical act of tying individual knots is a meditative reflection on the real world relationships the artist must be gentle with.
